Questions to ask before disciplining an employee -

 

  • Does the employee handbook have any areas which might be construed as giving contractual rights to our employee?
  • Do we have a published disciplinary policy?
  • Are employees given adequate advance notice of disciplinary rules?
  • Are disciplinary rules fair and reasonable?
  • Has an adequate investigation of alleged offenses taken place prior to any disciplinary action?
  • Was the investigation conducted objectively?
  • Are rules enforced consistently and equally?
  • Is discipline administered consistently and equally?
  • Is the punishment related to the severity of the offense?
