Questions to ask before disciplining
an employee -
- Does the employee handbook have
any areas which might be construed as giving contractual rights
to our employee?
- Do we have a published
disciplinary policy?
- Are employees given adequate
advance notice of disciplinary rules?
- Are disciplinary rules fair and
reasonable?
- Has an adequate investigation of
alleged offenses taken place prior to any disciplinary action?
- Was the investigation conducted
objectively?
- Are rules enforced consistently
and equally?
- Is discipline administered
consistently and equally?
- Is the punishment related to the
severity of the offense?
